Networks Include Cells-on-Wheels Connected to Complete All-IP Core With Upgrade Path to 3G and 4G Through Software Plug-Ins

Columbia, Md., USA – Tecore Networks, a global supplier of multi-technology 2G, 3G and 4G mobile network infrastructure, today announced that it has supplied complete GSM communications systems including core and radio access networks for multiple major military facilities. In collaboration with a Tier 1 defense contractor, Tecore delivered the technology solution as well as devices and ancillary equipment, system integration, and installation, commissioning, acceptance testing and training services.

Military organizations are increasingly seeking to use communications based on commercial standards because of the proven nature and cost effectiveness of technology that supports over four billion subscribers worldwide. Simultaneously, they have stringent demands for security and prioritization that require adaptation of that technology so it can be fortified for military use. Tecore was selected based on its unique 17-year history of serving both commercial and government networks with state-of-the-art wireless technologies through multiple evolutions of the standards, demonstrated by implementations of its Military Secured (MilSec) portfolio of multi-technology all-IP communications systems.

Each system delivered to the military installations:

  • comprises an entire network of both fixed GSM base stations and cells-on-wheels for deployment flexibility
  • includes a complete, feature-rich and all-IP core network with MSC/VLR, HLR/HSS and SMSC/MMSC
  • has an upgrade path to 3G and 4G based on Tecore’s software-defined architecture, which provides upgrades as software plug-ins.
“Our military customers seek out vendors who are fully capable of supporting the armed forces in the most challenging situations,” said Scott Hill, Executive Vice President of Global Commercial and Federal Sales, Tecore Networks. “In the mission-critical area of communications, Tecore has established a strong track record of serving these customers based on our deep expertise in the major wireless technologies, our ability to adapt to a particular warfighter’s wireless requirements and challenges, and our turnkey capabilities including professional services.”
